When the Name You Asked For Is Not Free This Week

Regulars who ask for one therapist will sometimes hear that she is not available. What the reply offers, and why a declined hour means nothing more.

Most people who book at Schiphol more than a handful of times end up asking for the same name. It is a natural habit. The first visit went well, the second confirmed it, and by the fourth the booking message has become her name, a day and an hour. Then, one week, the reply says she is not free. For a first-time guest that would barely register. For a regular it can feel like a small door closing, and the questions that follow are usually the same ones, so it is worth answering them here.

Why she might not be free

The honest answer is that there is usually nothing to explain. Each therapist decides her own bookings one at a time, with her own week in front of her. She may already have a booking at that hour. She may be away, or taking a few days off, or simply not working that evening. She may have decided that an evening out by the airport does not suit her that week. None of those reasons is shared, because none of them is anyone else's business, and a declined hour carries no meaning beyond the fact that the hour did not suit her.

Regulars sometimes wonder whether a no means something has gone wrong. It almost never does. If a limit had been pressed during a visit, the visit would have ended then, and that is a different situation entirely, covered in the terms. A simple not free this week is exactly what it says.

What the reply offers

The reply does not stop at no. It usually offers one of two things, and often both. The first is another hour with her: the same evening later, or another evening that week, if she has one. The second is another name at your hour, from the same roster, if the hour matters more than the name. Nothing is decided on your behalf. You choose, in the thread, whichever of those suits you, or neither.

Saying in advance which you prefer saves a round of messages. A regular who writes Thursday at nine, her if she is free, otherwise the same hour with someone else, will get a reply that answers both halves at once. One who writes Thursday at nine with her, and would rather wait than change, can say that too, and the reply will offer her next free hour instead.

If you choose another name

Choosing someone else for one evening does not affect anything about the next booking. The thread records what was booked and nothing more. There is no ranking of guests and no note made about who asked for whom. The profiles on the roster carry the full set of figures for each therapist, and the rates are the same across the roster: ninety minutes costs the same whoever you book.

A different therapist will begin the visit the way every visit begins, by saying in her own words what the session includes and where her limits are. What was usual with one person is not assumed with another, and regulars who have booked one name for months sometimes need reminding of that. It is not a formality; it is how each visit is agreed.

When she cancels after confirming

Occasionally a therapist who has accepted a booking cannot come after all. In that case the house tells you as soon as it knows, and the choice is yours: take someone else from the roster for the same hour, or take the deposit back in full. If you would rather leave the deposit as credit against another date with her, that is possible too, for as long as you need to settle on one. The cancellation policy sets this out under the heading on the house being unable to perform.

Keeping the habit without depending on it

The regulars who are content with this arrangement tend to hold their preference lightly. They ask for her first, they say what they would like if she is not free, and they are not troubled by the occasional week that goes another way. Some keep two names they are glad to see and ask for whichever is free. The page on asking for the same therapist again goes into this in more detail.

What stays constant is the part that matters. Every therapist on the roster decides for herself, every visit starts with her own words about what it includes, and everyone present is twenty-one or over. A week without the usual name is still a week with an evening in it.

Write, and the thread does the rest

Send the week

Give the building, the hour in Amsterdam time and how long you want, and a name, a figure and a journey time come back in the same thread. A second trip needs far less typing than a first.
